Do not ask about the title of it. It makes sense to me but that's because I'm the one writing it. It's not going to be on ff.net only because I would get a LOT of flames saying something about OC's and characters and yeah...So, I’ll just keep it here. Okay, go with me on this, we’re going to say red means your pregnant; because apparently none of us know (we’ve never been pregnant before). You’ll understand in a few minutes.
Summary: The last year in High School and neither Kris nor Ryou planned on a baby coming along. Now they have to tell EVERYONE else about it. And that includes her dad. But how will they manage all of that when they can’t even stop arguing long enough to tell anyone?
This isn't how I wanted this chapter to turn out but it's good enough for me. It's not as long as you think.
What Hurts the Most
“Oh shit,” the little thing on the Pregnancy Test turned a deep red and as she reached over for the box that was sitting on the sink, Kris scanned the back of it for a minute, her hair fell in front of her face as she looked at the box. She blinked and set the box down on the sink again. It couldn’t be true! It wasn’t true! The test wasn’t that accurate, but then again there were other signs. There were other ways to tell she could be pregnant. She couldn’t believe it. She was only seventeen. She was too young to be pregnant.
“Kris?” the teen turned toward the closed door. She knew who it was almost instantly. Walking across the room, she unlocked the bathroom door and opened it, wrapping her arms around the white haired teen standing just outside of the bathroom. He smiled and ran his fingers through her hair. “What?” he asked when Kris let go of him.
Sighing, Kris walked back to the sink. She picked up the box and the actual Pregnancy Test and walked back over to Ryou, first showing him the back of the box. He looked at the back of it, reading off what the colors on the back meant and then Kris showed him the part of the Pregnancy Test that had turned red. He looked from the box to Kris, his chocolate colored eyes wide with surprise. “You mean?”
She nodded already knowing what he was going to say. She took the box and set the things back on the sink before finally speaking “we’re going to have a baby.”
---
Not even thirty minutes later, both Kris and Ryou were in the living room of his house. Neither of them spoke for a few minutes. It was hard to admit that she really was pregnant. It wasn’t like they weren’t happy, because they were. It was just the fact that she was pregnant that surprised them both. And at seventeen, how was it possible? They were far too young to be thinking about kids. Everyone else seemed to think the same thing only a week earlier when they were discussing the matter in Health.
“What are we going to do?” Kris asked a loud. Ryou turned and looked at her, apparently, during the time of silence, he was lost in his own thoughts. “The school year barely even started and here I am finding out I’m pregnant. What are we going to do?” Kris asked again.
“I-I don’t know.” Ryou admitted. He didn’t know what they were supposed to do. How was he of all people supposed to know what to do about finding out they were going to have a baby? He stood up, “I think the only thing we can really do is get advice.,” he said.
“We don’t need advice.” Kris replied. “I’m not going all the way to the doctors just for him to tell me everything I already know and then have to pay just for visiting.”
“We don’t know much about it. All we know is you might be pregnant.” Ryou replied as he walked into the kitchen.
Kris stood up and followed him. “Might?” she asked. “I might be pregnant? That Pregnancy Test was 99% accurate. We already know that I’ve missed a period, what more proof do we need then that?”
“Kris, all I’m saying is that we should see a doctor. Maybe he’ll be able to help us figure out what we can do.” Ryou said as calmly as possible. He wrote something on a notepad that was attached to the refrigerator and then walked to the phone, dialing the doctors’ office. “Maybe we can see him today. We can figure everything else out tomorrow.”
Kris sighed, defeated. She leaned against a wall, pushing back her hair out of her eyes and watched Ryou. He hung up the phone only a few minutes later and grabbed the car keys off the table. “He said to be there in ten minutes.”
Kris nodded and followed Ryou back to the living room. They both stopped at the door and almost instantly, Kris took the keys from him. “You sure you’re okay to be driving?”
“You make it sound like I’ve been drinking.” Kris muttered as she walked out of the door. “And for the record, I haven’t been. So yes, I’m okay to drive.”
“You know what I mean, Kris.” Ryou replied. She didn’t say anything. Ryou sighed but didn’t say anything else.
---
“We’re not doing that.” Kris muttered as she took the pamphlet with the word ‘ABORTION’ on the top of it. “And we’re not doing that.” again, she removed a pamphlet, this time with the words ‘PUTTING KIDS UP FOR ADOPTION’
“Come on, Kris. You have to have an open mind here.” Ryou said as he took the pamphlets she had removed.
“I’m not having an abortion if that’s what you’re suggesting.” Kris said as she snatched that pamphlet away from him and setting it on a table next to her.
They spent over an hour in the doctors’ office and all he did was have her take another test and gave them pamphlets to read over. He scheduled another appointment for the following month and now the two of them were back at Ryou’s house, looking through the pamphlets. Most of which Kris absolutely refused to do.
“I’m not suggesting about the abortion. I mean have an open mind for the other options we have.” Ryou replied.
“All I see is things about giving up the baby. We’re not giving it up the baby. Besides, I don’t see why he would give us something about abortion.”
“He knows we’re desperate.” Ryou replied.
“Desperate?” Kris repeated as she set the remaining pamphlets on the table. She turned and looked at Ryou “define desperate.”
“All I mean is that we don’t have too many options available for us now. We can’t do much of anything unless you want to keep the baby.”
“What makes you think I don’t want to keep the baby?” Kris asked. “I never said that I didn’t want to keep it.”
“Well then why have we spent an hour looking through pamphlets?” Ryou asked.
“Hell if I know. It was your idea. I never wanted to go to the doctors and I never wanted to look at these. I know what I want to do with the child. I just don’t know what we’re supposed to do now.” Kris said. She stood up and gathered the pamphlets up, setting them all neatly back onto the table before grabbing her coat and walking to the door.
“Where are you going?” Ryou asked as he watched her walk to the door.
“Walk around for a bit. Maybe go home and grab a few things. I’ll be back later.” Kris muttered as she opened the door and step out into the darkness of the night, shutting the door behind her.
Ryou sighed, leaning back and resting his head on the back of the couch, closing his eyes. This was not going to be easy. Especially if she was going to snap at him throughout the whole pregnancy. If she did that she would most likely end up snapping at everyone else and they would want to know what’s with the mood swings and then they would have to explain the whole she’s pregnant. That was not something he was ready to do. And he knew that Kris wouldn’t be willing to tell them any time soon. They were both still trying to get the fact to sink in.
But they would have to tell her dad, and soon.
