This is a idea I had a week ago and haven't gotten around to doing. Okay this is a AU (Alternate Universe) only because I'm basing it off a song by George Strait. Let me know what you think. This isn’t how I wanted it to turn out but seeing as how I forgot the other way I wanted it to turn out, this is good enough for me. At least for now. I might change it when I remember the other idea. I just want to get this all done.
Check Yes or No
It started back in the third grade. The school year was half way over and the teacher was assigning new seats for everyone. But the time she was done, Ryou, Kris, and Joey ended up in the back row, all three of them sitting next to each other. In front of them were Yugi, Tea, and Kaiba. Getting them all together wasn't such a good idea. Although the all had to admit it was better then Joey and Kaiba sitting by each other. They had hated each other since the beginning of that school year. But getting Ryou and Kris next to each other seemed like the worst idea imaginable. The first day of new seats, Kris walked in wearing a dress. A pink one at that. Of course, go figure it wasn't her fault. Her dad wanted her to look nice for the picture day. She was the only one dressed up for the occasion though. Everyone else just came in jeans and a shirt.
That day on the bus, both Ryou and Kris had to run to the bus, they were lucky they made it on time. As soon as they got on the bus left the school. The two of them found a seat in the back and for half of the ride home, Kris was silent, she looked out the window of the bus lost in thought. When they got close to her stop, she looked over at Ryou who seemed to be in the middle of a book. When the bus stopped, she placed a kiss on his cheek; he looked up at her, his eyes wide with surprise. She only put a finger to her lips, as if signaling don't say anything. He nodded and she stood up to get off the bus.
It started way back in third grade
I use to sit beside Emmylou Hayes
A pink dress, a matching bow, and her ponytail
She kissed me on the school bus but told me not to tell
The next day, for the first half of the day, much to his surprise, Ryou found Kris and Tea, they both seemed to be whispering about something every chance they got. She didn’t say anything to him for that half of the day. When the teacher dismissed them for recess, Ryou was determined to find out what they were talking about. He chased Kris around the playground, under the monkey bars and then stopped at the old merry-go-round where she finally sat down. They sat there in silence for a little bit before the teacher called them inside.
Just like before, Kris and Tea were whispering about something and it wasn’t until the last hour of the day that Tea finally handed him a note. He unfolded it and read what was on the inside ’Do you love me, do you wanna be my friend? And if you do, well then don’t be afraid to take me by the hand if you want to. I think this is how love goes. Check yes or no.’ Ryou looked over at Kris, she only smiled and tried to hide the fact that she was blushing like crazy. He looked down at the note and checked one of the boxes. Folding up the paper and handing it back to her before the teacher found out what they were doing.
Next day I chased her round the playground
Across the monkey bars, to the merry-go-round
And Emmylou got caught passing me a note
Before the teacher took it, I read what she wrote
Do you love me, do you wanna be my friend?
And if you do, well then don’t be afraid to take me by the hand if you want to
I think this is how love goes
Check yes or no
Now twenty years later, the two of them are happily married and still acting like little kids for the most part. For their anniversary, Ryou took her out. First, he took her out to eat, the same restaurant he proposed to her at. Or rather, the birthday cake proposed to her. He remembered that night. He waited until her birthday to propose. He had a cake made and on it read ‘Will you marry me?’ Of course, she had said yes.
After the dinner, he took her to a concert. It was outside so the two of them sat on top of a hill, lying on a blanket. He wrapped his arms around her and after a little bit, he slowly pulled out a piece of paper. He handed it to her and she unfolding it, reading what it said before turning and looking at him, her eyes wide with surprise. “You still have this?” he nodded and she looked back down at it. Some of the writing was fading away but it was still readable.
Now we’re grown up and she’s my wife
Still like two kids with stars in our eyes
Ain’t much changed, I still chase Emmylou
Up and down the hall, around the bed in our room
Last night I took her out in a white limousine
Twenty years later, she still gets to me
Can’t believe it’s been that long ago
When we got started with just a little note
Now the two of them are lying there on that blanket, staring up at the stars above, both of them could still hear the band playing below. Mostly everyone else that came to see the concert decided to leave now leaving both Kris and Ryou and a few other couples. Propping himself on his elbows, Ryou looked down below at the band that was playing. He smiled when he heard the familiar tune to the song. Standing up, Ryou grabbed Kris and pull her up. “What are you doing?” she asked.
“Remember?” Ryou asked. “They played this at our wedding...”
Kris nodded. How could she forget. The guys thought it was the perfect song for the two of them to dance to. And she had to admit, they weren’t lying. He took her hand in his and led them away from the blanket and away from everyone else before pulling her close to him, putting his arm around her waist and taking her other hand in his. She smiled, as the two of them swayed with the music. Both of them had to admit, the knew very little about dancing, most of the time it was swaying or just spinning round and round.
When the music stopped playing, Ryou spun Kris out one last time and she spun back to him. He caught her and placed a kiss on her lips before the two of them waked back to their spot, ignoring the fact that people were looking at them. They smiled and sat back down and just as they did, the band said something about playing one last song for the night. Neither of them seemed to be listening though. Kris rested her head on his shoulder, enjoying the time they had alone, wishing that the night would never end and they would never have to go home where all they had to look forward to was seeing their kids again.
Ryou smiled, as he looked a Kris. He placed a kiss on the top of her head and looked back at the band playing. He, like her was wishing the night wouldn’t end. It was the first time in a long time, they were able to get out of the house without having to worry about kids and he didn’t want it to end. He looked down at the letter still lying on the blanket. He could still make out each word and when the words faded into nothing, he would remember what the letter read. That was something you couldn’t forget. Something that stayed with you until the day that you died.
Do you love me, do you wanna be my friend?
And if you do, well then don't be afraid to take me by the hand
If you want to.
I think this is how love goes, check yes or no.
