"Kay K?" Joey questioned now staring at the screen. "What's the K stand for? Super K? No...Super Kris! Super Kris to the rescue! Literally..."
He was left giving the phone a rather confused look, finally giving up on it and flipping it closed, placing on a patch of floor next to him in case he had to answer it again, which with his luck would be rather soon.
Silence reigned over the room once agian, except the sounds of pencil scribbling against paper. All the same, it was peaceful for a while...At least until the scribbling and scratches of the pencil became too much for him and he wanted to shout something, anything that would fill the room with noise. Though, this didn't seem needed as his cellphone went off once again. As he flipped it open, lone and behold, the name Kris with the K next to her name popped up.
"You know, you're Super K now in my phone..." Joey said the moment he answered the phone.
"What are you talking about?" Kris questioned.
"Nothing...Nevermind..." Joey muttered.
"Well," Kris said, "I just wanted to tell you...I'm here...Watching you..."
"What are you? My stalker?" Joey questioned.
"No, I just happen to be standing behind you..." Kris muttered.
Looking up so he was no longer staring at the ceiling, but now looking at Kris who at the moment seemed to be standing upside down over him. Her arms were on her hips, and she didn't look happy in the least bit.
"You can hang up the phone now, Joey..." she muttered.
"Sorry..." Joey flipped the phone shut and sat up, snatching his notebook away from Kaiba, "What are you doing copying off my answers ya jerk?" he questioned in mock anger.
Kris sighed, "I didn't know tutoring meant copying..." she commented.

Kaiba glared at the boy for a moment, but thought better of saying anything. "Sup Kris?" he adressed the girl instead.

Kris turned and glared at Kaiba her hands still on her hips. "I should be asking you the same thing Seto!" she snapped angrily. "You know, the only reason I cam up with this master plan was to help the both of you...I mean you both agreed it would get your out of summer school. But now you're just relying on the other person to do all of the work." she sighed at this point and walked away from both teens who were sprawled on the floor and instead around the desk that held Kaiba's laptop. Sitting down at the desk, she examined the laptop, almost as though forgetting the other boys were in the same room with her at the time. Finally though she looked back up at them, "You can't tell me the only reason you're doing this is so you can jack with the laptop any chance you get, can you..."
Joey opened his mouth to say something, but fell silent again as his phone went off beside him. He jumped and flipped it open. "Oh...It's just a text from Tristan...He wants to know if we want to go out for tacos now," he said as he propped himself up onto his elbows to look at Kaiba.
"No!" Kris snapped as she stood up, stalking back over to them adn yanking the phone from Joey's hands. "You haven't done anything...Besides let him cheat off you...And I'm sure that'll work perfectly on the test for both of you. When Owen finds out he'll be glad to rip the papers in half and throw them away. You'll both fail the test if he finds out you're cheating!"
"I-but-can I have my phone back? Joey asked.
Kris sighed, "After you've passed your Chemistry test!" she snapped.
Kaiba chuckled at this, and Kris turned her gaze back on him, "Just like you can have your loptop back after you've passed your Algebra test!"
Silence...

(WHAT?!  ) "What?!" Kaiba yelled, staring at Kris like she was nuts. "Ha!" Joey grinned. "You can't do that!" Seto snapped at Kris. "I think I just did." she said. "Got anything for that dumbass?" Joey asked Kaiba. Kaiba smacked him upside the head. The two tumbled to the floor in a clawing mess. "BOYS!" Kris screamed, and they froze, "This is only gonna work if you two can get along and listen to each other. I know you don't want to spend your summer at school." The two glanced at each other and then back up at her. No. They didn't. Kris knelt down and put one hand on Kaiba's shoulder, the other on Joey's. "And I know you can do this." |

"Because you have no other choice..." Kris finished with a slight smile. She stood after this, looking between both boys for a moment or two, "I know you two don't like each other....But this won't work unless the two of you work together. You're so preoccupied with hating each other and wanting to spend as little time together as possible, but what you don't realize is that you'd be spending more time together by not working together. You would be spending a lot of time together in summer school..."
She fell silent after this before walking back over to the desk where the laptop still sat. "I love you both, but you have to work together if you want to avoid summer school...." with this she picked up the laptop and walked to the door, "I'll see you both tomorrow! Oh, and just for an added challenge work on problems one through ten on page two-hundred. It's tonights extra credit homework, and Lord knows Kaiba, you need as much extra credit as possible..." With this, she left the room leaving the others two in confusion.
"Did she just do that?" Joey asked, dummbfounded. "She can't do that..."

Kaiba dug out his cell phone and started dialing a number.
"What now?" Joey asked.
"I'm calling my lawyer," Kaiba said, "See how he feels about sueing a 16 year old girl."
Joey snatched the phone away.
"Well what am I supposed to do? I need that laptop!" Kaiba said.
"And I need my phone." Joey said, "But she already told us how to get them back..."
The two were silent, staring at each other.
Could they really do this?
"Well..." Kaiba mumbled.
"Well?" Joey asked.
Kaiba drew out his chemistry book and set it on the floor by Joey, exchanging it for the other boy's math book. "I'll try to do some of it myself. You'll help if I get stuck, right?"
Joey looked at Kaiba for a moment.
Could they really do this?
"Yeah," he said, "I'll help if ya get stuck."
"OK," Kaiba smiled and turned away.
They were both working on their problems for only a few seconds before Kaiba looked up again and said, "Two plus two is four, right?"
Joey stared at him.
Kaiba laughed, "I'm kidding, I'm kidding!" he said and went back to the algebra work.
Joey sighed and opened the chemistry book. This was gonna be a long quarter...

SCENE CHANGE It wasn't long after the two of them had set to work, in what Joey was surprised by but silence before he started in on the work out of the Chemistry book befor ehe finally looked up at Kaiba, too lost as far as what the book had said that he would have to go back and read over at least three more times before understanding any of it. "Kaiba this is not working..." he muttered as he sat up, now bringing himself into a sitting position. Pulling the book into his lap, Joey could only but stare at it for a moment or two. "Predict the formulas of these compounds, which contain polyatomic ions: barium hydroxide, ammonium phosphate, potassium sulfate...." he read the problem out of the book before looking back up at Kaiba. "Okay, first of all I don't know what the hell barium hydroxide, monium phosphate, potassium sulfate are...And I don't understand how to 'Predict the forumulas for these compounds'" (Here's your Cheat sheet Predicting Formulas of Compounds with Polyatomic Ions |

"They have to balance out..." Kaiba said distractedly, "What's the square root of 49?"
"Seven," Joey said, "Seven times seven is 49."
"I never did get square roots..."
"How do you balance them?"
"Make the charges equal...what's the square root of 56?"
Joey had to think about that one, "2 root 14."
"Why?"
"56 has no square root, it's 8 times 7, which is 2 times 2 times 2 times 7. There a two 2's so you move them outside and leave the 2 times 7 in."
"The first one was barium hydroxide?" Kaiba asked, "Barium is Ba, it has a positive 2 charge..."
"What's hydroxide?" Joey asked.
"Hydrogen and oxygen, OH, with a negative 1 charge." Kaiba said, "So, when you multiply the square root of 49 and the square root of 56 it's actually 7 times 2 root 14?"
"Yeah," Joey said, "When you say 'balance' them, you mean they need the same charge?"
"Something like that...uh, how many 1's do you need to make 2?"
"2."
"Then Barium hydroxide needs how many Ba ions?"
"1."
"And how many OH?"
"2."
"What's that look like?"
"Ba(OH)2?"
"Right." Kaiba stopped scribbling in his notebook, "14 root 14."
"Right!"
The two stared at each other.
Now they were making progress!

(Okay find now you have to give me a problem to solve *nods*)
It seemed scary to Joey now that the two of them were actually making some progress with the work that had been assigned. The fact that the two of them were getting along and helping each other seemed all the more scary in joey's eyes, btu he didn't dare complain about it. Kaiba was being helpful for once in his life, and he didn't want to say anything that would ruin that. Though, it was rather surprising all the same.
"Kris' 'evil plan' is working..." Joey said in mild humor, with a mixture of horror. "I mean the fact that the two of us are working togther and making some progress..."
He trailed off as he continued working, allowing silence to once again swallow the room.
Now turning to the new page, Joey found the heading 'Isotopic Abundance' scrawled across the top. As he read the problem, he couldn't help but try answering it a loud, just to see if he was right. Looking back up at Kaiba he said, "So....The sum of the abundances must equal 100%. Therefore: abundance 115B = 100.0 - 20.0 = 80.0%, right?"

"Yeah." Kaiba said, "How do you divide square roots?"
"Like what?"
"Square root of 32 divided by the square root of 12?"
"It's like fractions." Joey explained. "You multiply the top and bottom by the square root of 12."
"Then the bottom's just 12."
"Yeah, but what's the top? 32 isn't even reduced all the way. It's 4 root 2."
"4 root 2..." Kaiba bit his lip and thought for a minute, "times the square root of 12..."
"2 root 3."
"4 root 2 times 2 root 3..."
"Is?" Joey promted.
Kaiba hesitated, still thinking. "Um...8 root 6?"
"Over 12."
"Reduce?"
"Uh-huh."
"2 root 3..."
"No, you can't reduce roots."
"2 root 6...over 3."

Again, it seeme dto amaze Joey. There was just something about the fact that the two of them were getting along and able to understand what they were having so much trouble with in school that just didn't seem right to Joey. The fact that he understood Chemistry more so then he did coming into this whole thing, and the fact that it wasn't taking them too long to finish off their homework. By the end of the week, Joey could only guess the two of them would be comfortable enough with their respective subjects that they wouldn't really need the tutoring. And just thinking about what their teachers would say about how much progress they had made...It made the entire idea all the more interesting and better for him to think about it.
"That's right," Joey said with a smile. "See you're already making progress. I told ya it would help if the two of us worked together, at least now we both understand a little bit more..."
He fell silent and finally sht the Chemistry book, "Okay I've about lost interest in this..." he turned his gaze to Kaiba. "If ya hurry up and finish the rest of your homework we can go get pizza...Or somethin that doesn't involve sitting here all night..."
With this, Joey started picking his rather messy patch of carpet where he had managed to spread out paper after paper of writing, mostly notes from class the other day. But now as he looked at the notes that lay before him, he felt he could understand it a bit more then usual.
"I think tomorrow I need some help with the Periodic Table though..." he commented as he flipped to that section in the notes. Finally though, he put it back in his backpack where it would stay until the next day.

"OK." Kaiba was quick to agree to anything that meant less time doing math. He finished the last problem and shoved the book off the end of the bed, careful not to hit Joey, but satisfied by the thump the stupid math book made when it hit the floor.

"Don't be hatin the math book!" Joey snapped playfully as he stood up. "I mean I know you hate math and everything, but you can't hurt the book."
He grinned at this, "Okay screw math. Anyways, what do you want to do?"
He had hoped this wouldn't turn into one of those 'I don't know, what do yuou want to do?' type things, and if such a thing were to ever happen, he would just have to walk out of the room. But for the time being all he could do was wait.
"I mean we have the rest of the afternoon...And with me having no cellphone and you with no laptop...I'm positive we can find something to do." he said sarcastically, just now realizing he was left without a phone, which meant he had no way to tell Tristan whether they wanted to meet up to get some pizza.
Okay, so it did suck...Now having lost interest in the homework and yet having nothing else to do. there wans't much that Joey could think to do at least, so he could only hope Kaiba had some sort of idea.
